  • Volunteers established in Canadian society will be matched with an ESL learner for three months of weekly converations. The objective is to help immigrant and refugee newcomers overcome the stress of moving to a new country by giving them the opportunity to practice English socially, gain information about Canada and Victoria, and establish a network of friendship and support. Requirements include sound knowledge of spoken English; experience in a cross-cultural setting; personal commitment to learning about new cultures and languages; and a friendly, patient, and supportive demeanor. Another language besides English is an asset. A criminal record check is also required.
