The Gingerbread House Event supports the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Cool Moves program. Cool Moves promotes physical activity and healthy eating for kids. The core goals of the event are: Create a family friendly event and atmosphere that promotes fun Provide funds and food to the community through the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Ensure that anyone can participate regardless of their financial situation In addition, the event supports the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs Christmas Hampers through donations of toys and food. In 2011, the event saw over 400 participates and spectators come to the event with over 80 gingerbread house entries. This is triple the size of the inaugural event in 2010 and the committee believes 2012 will see double the numbers from 2011. The Gingerbread House Event is present by the Red Hot Chili Paddlers Dragon Boat Team.

Some of the Worlds best wrestlers come to BC to compete in the Hargobind International Wrestling Tournament. Spanning over two days, with one day dedicated to only Canadian wrestlers as part of the national carding system. The Hargobind International draws approximately 200 top world class wrestlers from Bulgaria, Greece, England, Austria, India and of course from USA. Over 15 Olympians have participated in the event over the last three years, including Olympic Champion, and Commonwealth Gold Medalist Carol Hyunh and recently crowned 2010 Commonwealth gold medalist Arjan Bhuller. Other world class provincial athletes competing for national ranking status, including John Pineda, Haislan Garcia, Matt Gentry, Amanda Gerhart, Danielle Lappage, and Sunny Dhinsa, . The tournament hosts approximately 2000 anxious spectators who press into Surreys Guilford Recreation Center to catch a glimpse of the worlds best wrestlers.

Dress in your favourite Halloween costume. (Nothing scary please! Some little kids are even scared of clowns.) Help children aged 1 to 6 years with carnival games and the haunted house. This program is a one-stop indoors Halloween event. Therell be a haunted house and Dr Frankenstein's lab and kids will also take part in spirited carnival games. There is a bouncy castle and climbing equipment for added fun. Come and have a whole lot of ghoulish fun with the kids and help with the games and haunted house. We're looking for fifteen volunteers aged 14+ who have initiative, are personable, safety conscious, responsible, enjoy working with children and follow directions well. Of course, you should be prepared to be active! This event will be held in the Fieldhouse at Pearkes Rec Centre.

It is the signature fundraising event of the ALS Society which brings together family and friends in support of ALS. The Run For Recovery is an annual event in Surrey, BC that aims at raising awareness for the Welcome Home Addiction Recovery Academy. The Academy, with locations in Surrey, BC and Seattle, Washington, is a residential, abstinence-based addiction recovery program that is free to program participants, and does not rely on government funding. It is the only recovery program of its kind in British Columbia, Canada that is accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Addiction Facilities, or CARF, and only one of 76 facilities in North America.

The Subaru Sooke Triathlon is staged in the charming setting of Sooke, a beautiful ocean-side community located in the western communities of Greater Victoria known for its lush evergreen forests, rainforest, picturesque coastal scenery, rugged cliffs and sandy beaches. It is a haven for both leisure and extreme activities including year-round charter fishing, scuba diving, windsurfing, hiking, zip-lining, and surfing. The race course features a swim in Young Lake, a small, calm, warm lake, followed by an amazing closed bike course on beautiful West Coast Road hugging the Pacific Ocean along the Pacific Marine Circle Route. The run course includes a journey out on to Whiffin Spit, a narrow 1km trail where the Pacific Ocean surrounds the athletes on both sides as they run towards a lighthouse. This is an event not to be missed!

The Canada Cup concludes the competitive season for 200 athletes throughout Canada and internationally. For 2012 however, it will be in an important date on the calendar for those athletes finalizing their preparations for the Olympic Games in London. The event is also an important competition in the development of younger athletes as they will have the opportunity to compete alongside national team members, try new routines and new competitive levels. This competition will also be used to identify future national team athletes and prepare them for future national and international competitions.

Since its inaugural year in 1973, the Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix (formerly known as the Tour de Gastown) has been among North Americas most challenging and exhilarating cycling events. For more than 30 years, many of the worlds top male and female cyclists have taken part in this race famous for its compact course, hairpin corners and spectacular upsets. The Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix is a criterium a multiple-lap bicycle race on a shorter closed route through city streets, with riders reaching speeds of up to 70 kilometres per hour in tightly packed pelotons. In the races prior years, huge crowds lined Water, Cambie, Carrall, Cordova and Abbott streets to witness the wheel-to-wheel action of this challenging race.

The Subaru Vancouver Triathlon will take place in the magnificent setting of the Spanish Banks Beaches with stunning views of the downtown Vancouver skyline and the picturesque North Shore Mountains. This event will be the most beautiful urban triathlon you will ever experience! An Olympic distance race has been added this year by popular demand. The race's rapid rise in popularity has been in large part due to the fact that it is one of the few triathlons in the world that will take place in a major city yet has stunning natural beauty. The race has been named "Top 10 Urban Triathlons on the Planet" by Triathlete Magazine and has been seen by millions of Canadians on a Rogers Sportsnet 60 minute national TV show. The race attracts first timers in the sprint, to celebrities, to Half Iron competitors preparing for Ironman Canada. Join us in the beautiful Olympic City!
