Q. What is VolWeb.ca™?
VolWeb.ca™ connects you with volunteer opportunities at special events in your community, from major sporting events and conferences to local festivals, fundraisers and community celebrations. It's a place where volunteers can go to find out about volunteer opportunities and events taking place in their community and beyond. Registering with VolWeb.ca™ helps to ensure that you don't miss out on great volunteer opportunities.
Q. Who can apply to volunteer through VolWeb.ca™?
Anyone in Canada can apply to volunteer through VolWeb.ca™.
Q. What is the minimum age for using VolWeb.ca™?
There is no minimum age for using VolWeb.ca™. However, some events do have minimum age requirements for their volunteers.
Q. Is there a cost to using VolWeb.ca™?
No, VolWeb.ca™ is free for both volunteers and event organizers seeking volunteers.
Q. If I register with VolWeb.ca™, will I automatically become a volunteer for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games?
No, VolWeb.ca™ and the volunteer program for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games are completely separate programs. However, the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee (VANOC) will be considering previous volunteer experience when evaluating potential volunteers for the Games. Registering with VolWeb.ca™ and volunteering at a variety of events is a great way for you to build up your volunteer resume.
Q. What happens after I register?
You can register by clicking on the "New to VolWeb.ca™? Sign Up Here" link on the left hand navigation menu, then clicking on "register now!" next to "I want to volunteer".
After you complete the registration form, there will be a short waiting period while your registration is approved. Upon approval, you will receive a confirmation e-mail, at which point you can login and start searching for volunteer opportunities.
Q. What is my username?
Your username is the e-mail address you used to sign up with VolWeb.ca™. If you want to change that e-mail, simply update the information on your profile page.
Q. I've forgotten my password! What should I do?
Simply click on the "forgot info?" link under the login button and enter the e-mail address you used to sign up on VolWeb.ca™. Your password will then be sent to that address.
Q. How private is the information I put on VolWeb.ca™?
While your name, skills and volunteer preferences can be seen by all organizations registered with VolWeb.ca™, your contact information does not get shared with anyone until you give permission. Organizations can only see your contact information after you have applied for a volunteer position at one of their events.
Q. Who can see my resume if I upload it to my profile?
Any personal and contact information in your resume is not protected and can be viewed by all organizations registered with VolWeb.ca™. If you don't want organizations to see your contact information before you sign up to volunteer for the event, please upload your resume without your contact information. Please note that you are not required to upload a resume.
Q. I signed up for an event, but am no longer available--what should I do?
Although you should be committed to an event after you sign up for it, we understand that unexpected situations do occur. If you are no long available for an event you signed up for, you can cancel your volunteer application. Your list of upcoming events is listed on your dashboard. Simply click on the "Cancel" link next to the event you are no longer available for.
Q. I applied for a position awhile ago, but have not heard back. What should I do?
If you haven't heard back from the event organizer after 1 or 2 weeks, there is a convenient reminder button you can use to remind an organization that you've applied. This can be found in the My Upcoming Events section of your dashboard. It will send an email to the organizer asking them to respond to your application.
Q. What do I need to do after volunteering at an event?
You can login to your VolWeb.ca™ account and enter the hours you volunteered for at the event. This way you will have a complete list of all the events you volunteered at through VolWeb.ca™ and the hours you contributed. This feature can be found under the "My History" tab on the menu to your left.
Q. Are there any volunteer opportunities for group volunteers?
We do not have a special function for facilitating group volunteering, we encourage groups to volunteer together at an event. If you want to volunteer as a group, you can register everyone on VolWeb.ca™ and have each person apply for a position with the same event.
Q. I'm having technical problems with VolWeb.ca™! Who should I contact?
If you're having problems with VolWeb.ca™, please email volweb@bcgames.org. Please provide the following information in your e-mail:
- What page you were on when the problem occurred
- What error message you received (screenshots would be great)
- What type of operating system you are using (e.g. Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, etc)
- What Internet browser you are using (e.g. Internet Explorer 7.0, Firefox 2.0, Opera 9.22, etc).
Providing this information will help us troubleshoot the problem quickly.
